vb.org Archive - View Single Post - hiding forums from view?

How do I hide forums from the main index but show them when someone clicks a tab for them.

Effectively I want to reproduce what you do here at VB.org where you click mods and thats all you see, you click styles and thats all you see, is this possible for a normal working forums or is it some sort of plugin being used? As when I try to hide from view I cannot access the forums from any link.

Any advice would be greatly received.
