In vBulletin 3.8 within template SHOWTHREAD there is the following line of code:

<label for="qr_quickreply"><input type="checkbox" name="quickreply" value="1" id="qr_quickreply" accesskey="w" tabindex="4" />$vbphrase[quote_message_in_reply]</label>

This line controls the "Quote message in reply?" checkbox below the quick reply box.

I'd like to remove that line of code that way I'll be able to get rid of that unused feature on my forum. However I can see that the code is passing a default value ("1") to the checkbox. The question is: if I remove that line of code, what default value the checkbox will have? I believe that if I remove that line, that checkbox isn't going to exist anymore but I think that the PHP files will be expecting a value for that checkbox so what value the PHP files will take? Maybe they will get a wrong default value of "0"? I don't know... please tell me if it's safe to remove that line of code.
