Is there a mod or a hack out there to allow something like this?

We have a site that runs a military style tournament. People get promoted all the time during a campaign or season. It would be nice if our Commanders (moderators) or users could change display names without having to worry about the name they use to login. Simplemachines has some functionality like this, but we much prefer vbulletin.

Any advice would be helpful as I couldn't find anything when I searched.
