Could anyone provide me link(s) on articles about how to write my own plugin/mod - which will use database and ajax features. I need several custom mods for my forum badly...

I know there's a good way to download some simple plugins and digg int the code, but probably there are any good texts to read beforehand - to understand the concepts?
