Yes, Facebook connect is severely slowing my site as well. When I run a speed check, the facebook connect and like button end up making 70-75% of my load time. I need something far faster since this is crippling my site at times. Or is there a way to force those scripts to start running immediately so that they can run while the rest of the page loads?

Just disabled FB connect and dropped load times from 20-50 seconds down to less than 2 seconds. My stats also show that if it weren't for the facebook like button still being up I will have loaded the page in .5 seconds!!!
I don't think I care enough about Facebook connect to be using it if I get that much of a difference in my load times.
