I have one question that I know has drawn a lot of ire here, as it has been asked many times. It is about the top height of the block. In the sidebar.css there are many #sidebar_container options to select from (container, hover, etc), and I have tried to change the value of the padding on several of them, but have still not found the exact one to change the top level height of the side bar to lower it.
Which #sidebar_container specifically do I need to change the padding on?

The hack does work as advertised, but your instructions to lower the block to the proper alignment does not. At least not for my version of VB.

Ok.
In order to the changes of #sidebar_container to take effects in your
first post you need to make sure that "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files" is disabled.
To disable "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files" dothe following:
1. vbulletin settings->option
2. Go to "style & langauge settings"
3. Scroll down and set "Store CSS Stylesheets as Files" to No
4. Save
Now go to your style variable and set #sidebar_container value
