I have still some problems with the Kier's AaF hack installed, but only when I use a standard - NOT custom - avatar.
Actually it's within a category (another hack....

) but it isn't the problem. I can't see the image in the welcome panel.

I guess of course it depends on the function the Welcome Panel calls : getavatarurl() (you can see more here, about), but same I would put here my experience about this hard join.
