If you have a template for the navbar you could just try adding $navbar to the templates that would normally have it and see if it works. Again look at the default style to see where and in what templates it should be.
If you don't have a navbar template at all then you bought a pretty shoddy style- hopefully you can get in touch with who you bought it from for an explanation.
You could manually add a new template to the style, call it navbar and then copy the template code from the default style and paste it in. It won't be customized to your style but it will work and you can work on making it look right after you get it working.
