I think the best way is to use cPanel to setup a daily backup with weekly and monthly retentions and install MySQLDumper and set that up to make automatic backups. If your forum is not THAT large, you can set MySQLDumper to run every two hours or so. You can even set it up to transfer the backups to another servers of yours using FTP or just randomly download the latest backup every week or so just in case your server's HDD fails.

If you don't know how to setup cPanel/WHM cron backups... simply ask your host and I'm pretty sure they'll do it for you
