When you make a theme in a much higher resolution and or on a big screen what works in that mode tends to look like a train wreck in lower res or smaller screens.
Couple of options here.
1> Reduce the resolution on your screen to the minimum you want to let your forum appear. Plan and create working in that mode.
2> Set the forum to a fixed width and work off that.
