Actually, there are no options there that lets me give the users an access denied message. I managed to do it earlie, by hiding all forums manually for guests, and then changing the main options to display the entire board. The bad part was that ALL forums became visible that way (obviously), and I don't want the guests to be able to see the Admin forums on the list for instance.

Yes, there are. You have to set user group permissions per forum. Admin CP > Forums & Moderators > Permissions. You can select which groups can view the forums there.
