Moving hosts shouldn't loose any data at all. All you have to do is make a thorough backup of your db and files in your old host, create a db at the new host and then import the db backup there and reupload the forum files to the new server space preserving the structure intact. Then as last step, change the db info details at the config.php file to match those of the db at the new host where you restored the db backup and you should be all set.

Most host move a website/forum for free when they get new clients. So you might want to ask your new host if they will do the move for free for you.
