You don't need 6 slots of memory to get 12gb. My last test build I did I had an amd board with 16gb of ram in 4 slots. Intel boards do tripple channel memory (thus you need 6 slots to stay tripple channel) vs amd boards only doing double channel.

I think the AMD 1090T is the best price to preformance (200 bucks for the cpu), but 9/10 times a i7 will winout if other things are near equal.

It was 24gb of memory on Windows 7 Ultimate so I decided to go w/ that mobo...

I called and Brian Keuhne (Ext 5811) tweaked that DIY combo, swapped me out the 5200 RPM 1TB for this 7200 rpm, 2TB, 64MB, SATA-6G (the mobo can handle Sata-6g so I like that idea):

On top of that he upgraded the 12gb Corsair Memory to 24gb and it ended up running me $1542.42 and before it was right at $1539 in my shopping cart w/ the 1TB 5400 rpm! Now that's still within my price range of $1500-$1600 MINUS the video cards... I know so I bit the bullet and ordered two of the GeForce 550 Ti Superclocked from EVGA Directly at $159, I'll add a third one in at a later time .

The new i7 2600K (8M Cache, 3.40 GHz) looks really nice and the price isn't all that bad on it.

I checked and even w/ Zachery's links I could not bite the bullet on a SSD however I think his advice on adding it later is head on, so I'll be a SSD w/ the third graphics card in about 6 months that way it gives time for the cards to cheapen up and the SSD's . I could only go w/ the i7 that was in the combo otherwise purchasing it all separately had me at a higher price so all-in-all their combos can save you $$ and you can call and see if they can tweak the combo which is nice, not saying they can on every occasion but letting you all know it's worth a phone call at least .

Now it's the waiting game... for the parts so I can build it woohoo! I'll post back as I go maybe teach some how to build their own PC but I did run across this while doing all my research and thought some would find it interesting...
