Since the time of this posting I have gotten in touch with my hosting company, Host Gator, and found out that port 1935 needed to be open both in and out. That was done.

Now I can access the chat room, but still need to log in twice. Once for the message forum and again for the chat room. I sent an e mail to GChat about this a moment ago. I'll wait and see what they have to say.
