Yes, two usergroups. Woman and Men would be your best bet. If you use a profile field such as Men/Woman and decide to use conditionals then you will be able to hide the forums from the opposite sex but it doesnt prevent posts in there from showing up in What's New? nor does it prevent the opposite sex from replying to threads. Usergroups and Forum permissions per usergroup is your best bet. You need to have a required field on registration - Male/Female and figure out how to put a user in a certain usergroup depending on how they answer the "Sex:" question.
