Sorry I need help on this very topic. I did exactly

Acp->Styles & Templates->Style Manager->{Choose the style you ae using} and from the drop down menu choose for StyleVars->and under Common you have doc_background

If I change the background color, it works like a charm. However the background image doesn't seem to work for me. I've tried

/images/pict.jpg
../images/pict.jpg
pict.jpg
images/pict.jpg etc urls but the background image just won't appear. Thanks!!
