Geez, that's a tough question.
If I was in your position, I'd copy my existing site to a local test system if you don't already have one. One that can be completely sandboxed from the Internet and run on its own. Then I'd try reinstalling it and attach it to the new style and see what happens. It might get rid of data, but it should fix the style issue. If that's the case, you'll be able to cut and paste the template changes to your live site and it should work fine.
