I tested changing the post dates on normal posts (not affected by Banalive's Article Forums) in my main forum but with the same results. The post dates won't change. Hopefully I'm not just being blonde

Did you check the checkbox "apply the custom date"?
IF you did and it still doesn't work, what exactly are you trying to do? Change the date of existing post or a new one?
