Fool proof method to avoid stuff like this (except for those who do office work etc). Go into gmail YES GMAIL and configure it to send any mail with an attachment straight to the trash. This eliminates like 90 percent of attacks right there. And for the rest... if you don't recognize the sender/subject, trash it.
*also by default, gmail should not automatically load images so use this to your advantage and when you click on show details you can definitely tell if it's spam or not...
