First, I would really like to have a welcome mail setup that works independently of the email verification stuff.

Beyond that, It would be nice to post a welcome note automatically in a new member sign in forum. Just an added way to get people involved from the beginning.

Maybe the best way to do it is to just post the message, and send a note to the member as if the post was a reply to a thread they opened. That way the welcome note would be public, but also alert them that it's there. Am I making sense?
