There already kind of is. If you go to Settings and Staff Permissions and click on the Point Market: Market Items link. The very first setting asks you for a User ID to send a PM to when a user buys a store item. Now there isn't an option to do an email but it a PM should give you some notification.

Yes that was a bug. I'm not sure how it wasn't reported before but I have fixed it for the next release. Good find
