It seems that 4.0.4 has somehow f**ked the way the block is compiled and then cached, which is why it appears ok every so often (every time the cache expires, then it reverts to the broken cached copy again).

Hahaha. I was feeling exactly like you but I am falling in love with vb again after that 4.0.4 release.
