I cannot get the PM tabs working. When I turn it on, it shows the Chatbox tab, but no PM tabs pop up when you send/receive PMs.

"If you activate this option, your users will be able to have the private chats in tabs by clicking on a username.
For each private chat, a new tab is created on user request"

Clicking on the username in the chatbox links to the user's profile page and the down arrow next to the username in the chatbox has nothing about PMing.
