VB4 Plugin grab latest article with tag

Going to build a plugin that will grab the latest article with the tag feature1, suggestions on which files to include or the best place to start rather then doing all my own mysql code etc.

I can use the vbgrid/widget because the placement for this will actually be in the header.

Any help is appreciated.
