search only hitting slave

Looking at some hacks that existing for 3.6, you could insert some code into config.php to force search.php to hit the slave db. That no longer works on 3.8 but that's the functionality that I'm looking for. I'd like to still have the benefit of the slave for searching but stop sending other read-only queries to it.

Anyone doing that already?
