No, that's not possible. DownloadsII isn't meant to be a gallery mod.

No, that would require to rewrite almost every line of the code. Permissions, tables, ... everything should get another name then. And you would need to update it manually with every release.

1. It should work (if you run vB 4.0.2, but I see you do). Do you still have this problem?

Do you have PHP's GD library installed? Check your PHP info (AdminCP -> Maintenance).
