About indexed page - it sometimes happens that Google makes revolution in your indexed pages. Sometimes it goes back like it never happens, sometimes not. Google also evolves. Google also can have its own issues. I can bet that replication of data which has Google isn't easy. Personally I think that such drastic jumps are because of Google bugs in data replication between Google server farms. But really - I have no idea and I doubt that any of us ever haw. Google algorithms are mystery.

My proposition is to check does your robots.txt wasn't changed lately and didn't you block some kind of pages (i.e. I even advice to block some not relevant pages like members pages, calendar etc). That could explain such drastic change in number of indexed pages (there is also previous theory ).
