Installed new Addons maybe ? Image Resizers and such things that tend to eat resources ?

And - give iostat / vmstat / lsof / apachetop a try to see what your Webserver is doing all the time, additionally checking the logs and maybe - if required - increasing the log levels to INFO or DEBUG to see what's doing on.

Same of course applies to the DB and the rest of entire system.
