A background rotater sounds good in theory, but I wouldn't want it. All of the colors match the background. I have customized all of my Google Adsense ads to match the background. I've customized some other things such as the Hyperlink color so that it goes good with the background. Everything looks great with the current background. Change the background to something else, and everything could look like crap..
The only way that this will work is if you select backgrounds with the same color scheme and make sure that the background looks good with the font colors, etc.
I have tried some different backgrounds out of curiosity to see what it would look like. The backgrounds ended up looking great but the site did not because the font colors, widgets, etc. did not match the background. A bunch of edits would be needed in order to make it look good.
And Dave is right. It will slow the site down tremendously. Sure, it does cache cache the page the first time that it is loaded. But what good will that do when the background changes again? It will have to cache another page. Then another. Then another. Etc. It would all depend on how many backgrounds that it will rotate.
