If you run it correctly, it really should work.
What did phpMyAdmin say afterwards? It should say something like "x rows updated/affected". If the number is zero, then there's something wrong

The only thing to note is that there's a parsed posts cache ("Cached Posts Lifespan" in the "Server Settings and Optimization Options"). You could set it temporarily to 0 to check if the post table is really updated.
