I see that cometchat is avaliable but I heard its really hard on the server. I only use a shared server so I don't know if its an option for me.

No matter what, this is more than likely going to kill a server. Unless you set it to refresh every 3 minutes xD But i believe that would ruin it no? I just recommend getting a bigger server
