Drop down menus have their place.. Suggestion: Make it function with just HTML and CSS, then add js if you need to (for delays and animation). That way it still functions if js is disabled.

Also, don't overkill. Like mentioned above, a lot of site owners feel that they can stuff hundreds of links, and several levels deep in navigation with drop downs. Don't make that mistake. Keep it simple.
