If I were you I would find a free template that I like and tear it down into piece to learn how its works. I doubt you will find a precise guide as to how to accomplish something that will please you. The steps and code are different for everyone based on how they want things to appear. Its just to big of a question for anyone to answer properly.

Most people on here learn from others work. I know I try not to reinvent the wheel but make it smoother or add tread to it.
