Strange thing, because the name in welcome is not a "rich username". I assume you have a custom hack that does this.

I don't want my members to lose any points they've already received, but I don't want to continue paying out points on certain forums.

Yes, all users would lose the points of the forums that are now ignored. You can "pay" the users with custom points the points that they don't have anymore.
