Ancient bump, but I just went with the WiForums software and I love it.

It's expensive, and the templates are encoded, but support has been good so far and the install is a piece of cake. The only annoying thing about it is that you'll need to reaffirm every custom group's forum permission. Other than that, pretty much plug and play. Install + permission fixing took me about an hour.

Also nice is that instead of a skin/detect mod, you just toss it under a subdomain and you can hit it with a browser to do any profile tweaks.
