Thank you so much for your response!! It is much appreciated.

I am not too sure what the meaning/implication of the first part of your reply (your custom style is the issue, as your also missing images in the style, the link for the image is incorrect also) is. I am not too clued up on these techie things

But somehow at some stage I managed to slip in "index.php" in the url address in the admincp.

I have changed this, and this seemed to have resolved my issue.

I will keep a close eye on happenings to see if all is sorted.
