tried all ways to get messenger to work and none worked.
But ................

Finally got it working by uninstalling it and re-installing it.Very weird but at least got messenger working on windows7

Win7 is very smooth and i prefer this over Vista any day.

My stats are as follows :

AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad Core Processor 2.60 GHZ
Memory *4 gig
64 Bit OS

Yet i only get 4.6 on the windows experience Index
Ive just built this system last week as well as i decided to upgrade to Quad chip from a dual core.
My GFX card is PCI-e (NVIDIA Geforce 8500 GT
