1. If you want to see the actual change in the editor, you need to use the WYSIWYG editor. You may enable the WYSIWYG Controls in in vboptions > Message Posting Interface Options > Enable Clickable Message Formatting Controls Then you need to set it as your preference in User CP > Edit Options

2. Don't do it. You'd have to edit them directly in the database and who knows what sort of problems that could cause.
