I do not see the problem.
If there is nothing out there that is better it should win.

Have you never heard:
- car of the Year for it's 6th year running
- top salesmen for the last 30 years at the company
- top this or that in a given time span

It's about giving credit for good work and pointing out add-ons. Each thread that creates a poll lists 4-5 mods that you may have seen or not.

EX:
I do not shop around mindlessly for an idea thread by thread. I use search to find things.
If I take a look at the poll for MOTM I may look @ the 4-5 options for the simple fact that it may be something worth looking at.
This drives traffic to those mods that may not get it normally.
