1. No. You still need to modify the templates with the required changes.
2. Most modifications that work on 3.7 will work on 3.8. However, you should always test upgrading on a test board, and make sure everything is working.
3. What kind of file edits did you do? With 3.5+, there shouldn't be much of a need for them.
