So the "Guest" would type in their thread/post and hit the submit button and be taken to a page that says "hello, would you like to register on XYZ forum or just make this post?"
If they decide to register they fill in the registration form and their post is tied to the username they select immediately, still following the usual post moderation and user moderation guidelines.
If they opt not to register you could either have an option that lets them post it as a Guest or even disallows Guest posts entirely, just to lure people in...

Just a thought, like I said I have no idea if that's practical or not.

This would be perfect! I can't use this mod as it stands right now but it sure looks promising.
