Because the author of a blog entry is not getting credit for their effort, nor is a reader able to quickly filter out articles by a particular author. That should be self-evident. There is no serious group blog software on the web -- other than this release -- which does not credit original authors.

What would make sense is keeping stats for group blogs separate of stats for individual users.
