That could be done more nicely with a message like i posted above. And if they don?t see the category at all, they don?t even know that with registering on the site would actually give them that other Category.

So if they dont know its in there, there is no reason for them to signup to the forum. So that doesn?t really makes it more helpful.

Probably because you still have them set to Can View Files. If you want them to be able to see the files and get a No Permission message, don't make the whole category excluded. Keep the category visible and fine tune the yes/no permissions above that setting.
