Interesting - I own a 2001 Chevy Cavalier and the same has happened to it as well.
Choosing between only Ford or Chevy trucks, I would choose Ford. We utilize an older model Ford pickup and own a 2005 Ford Freestar and given the track record between the two brands on personal experience, it would stand to reason that I choose Ford. Every Chevy I've driven - or owned (from the 88' Chevy Silverado) to what we have left has been an utter disappointment. They just don't last. They equate to the Energizer batteries around here. You can buy a sixteen pack of 'AA' batteries and use them faster than a four-pack of Duracells. I drove a 2008 Chevy Silverado for two weeks and although it looked nice, I couldn't see myself owning it for the drive nor for the gas usage. This all comes from personal experience and others' mileage may vary. (Pun intended).
