actually, the one which breaks less do not depend on the OS you use but on the company you rely on... Dell, Hewlett Packard and some others have great support, so they can help you when your computer break... if you buy your PC at Walmart, good luck... if you buy your Mac at Walmart, even gooder luck... lol
if you have an unballanced power source, even for a PC or a Mac, you will have problems with your powersupply in your computer and that may lead to power surges, destruction of your circuits, motherboard etc, overheating, blah blah... there is no difference between a PC and a Mac on that part... if the environment of your computer is a risk, the life of the machine is in danger.
Apple had for a long time a monopole that was absurd... no reseller, you had to buy your computer in one of the 500 Apple Store on the globe... now they resell, like at FutureShop and BestBuy, so you can check there.. .but there is no change in prices... a PC can be sold in a wide variety of prices and models... a Mac have one model of each, same price around the globe -- like a BigMac.
Guarantees and support are comparable between big companies... but do not buy your computer in a small unrelated shop or you may loose these guarantees... a custom PC?!... anytime at big companies like Dell etc... for a Mac, forget it... but you can do it on your own.
