Right. Okay, we're on the same page. So why won't what I posted work for you? All you'd have to do is replace the "New Thread" button image link with a link to your banner and replace the URL that it points to, to your advertiser.

You may have small adjustments to make as the respondent of that thread did since it was moved over from the Post Reply button a bit. But otherwise, that should work.
