Actually, turning off both

and

Send a Facebook notification to the user when there is a new reply to a thread that the user is subscribed to?"

seems to stop members from getting a notification on every reply.
Either option doesn't appear to be doing what is advertised as the user should only get a notification to subscribed threads, right?
