I can't see any problems in having some new avatars that can be chosen by users, but why should it stop at your avatars if that's the case. Why shouldn't I be able to design some and have them up there too? Whilst I think yours look cute, the argument against your suggestion would be that everyone should be able to submit them which means work for someone down the line
