There are loads of recommendations of all the various anti spam mods, just do a search and install a few of them that should stop a good 99% of all spam bots

"IS Bot" is a great mod that will stop the majority of spambots, But you do really need to have a few alternative solutions in place.

A quick way to ban IP's is to ban the whole range, say for example 61.777.234.55 is a spammer from China, and you don't really want any members from china on your forum, you can ban the entire range simply by adding 61. into the ip banning section.

If members take a proactive approach to safeguarding their forums then the majority of automated spambot registrations can be avoided. As the saying goes Prevention is better than cure
