The home page, im sorry to say this but its killing it...
Try to use a better template or just install some kind of cms like drupal or something, it doesnt match at all with what you have in the forums, plus what exactly your forums are about? most of the forums have an specific subject to talk about ex: politics, techonlogy, Lost "tv show", love, sex, drugs, motorcycles.... try not to go with that black boring color, find a template that has contrast ( White with a strong yellow or may be, soft blue with black and soft gray, make it eye catchy (http://www.nextgengamers.com). One thing that works alot is word of mouth, open an account with youtube, facebook, myspace, make comments, meet people!
on the forum names dont just put "Movie General" use other words like "theatre addicts" or "Hollywood Screen" something like that...
